New single released – Maailman synty (The World Begins)

With the new single Maailman synty (The World Begins), Ida Elina opens an entirely new chapter in her artistic journey. The track is the most experimental release of her career: the composition unfolds largely without clear lyrics or rhythmic foundations, relying instead on melody, layers of kantele, and immersive textures. The aim was to create a whole new world — a sonic creation myth — built around a single central melody.

The piece features concert kantele, five-string kantele, and nearly one hundred overlapping vocal tracks.

“Most of the vocal layers are mine, but a few were recorded by studio producer Tuomas Aukio, who provided the deepest growling tones at the foundation of the piece. Nearly a hundred vocal tracks make the song feel incredibly rich — the voices resemble a tremolo string orchestra or shimmering water, bringing raw creative force into the music, which is fitting for a piece called Maailman synty (The World Begins) ,” Ida Elina explains.

On its release day, ”Maailman synty” was also featured on Bäst just nu on Sveriges Radio, highlighting new music from the global folk and world music scene.
